Tips on Office Organization

If your workspace is organized, you have a better chance of managing your time effectively. So, what what does it mean tp be organized?

Instead of working with somebody else’s definition, ask yourself, how organized do you need to be? When we talk about getting organized people often picture a spick and span office with nothing out of place. My experience has taught me that a neat office does not always mean an organized office. If you dump every piece of paper that comes to your office into a drawer, your office will be neat but not organized. Organization is a relative term; it’s all a matter of convenience.

  • In an organized office there will be a place for every thing and everything will be in its place. At the same time, you should be able to lay your hands on the thing you need the moment you need it.
  • It’s not just enough for you to know where everything is, it should be easy for others to find, as well. If the boss needs the project file while you are on vacation, it should be easy for someone else to locate it quickly. This is where labels and tags are important. Each file should have a label and be filed properly.
  • When labelling folders, use tags that will make sense to anybody. Just because you know what ARCS or WHOSH might be doesn’t mean it will be obvious to others.
